Contributing Material to be Played On-Air

The goal of Local Resonance is to create a self-sustaining radio show that is built around community involvement. Accordingly, the artist/band/listener interested in submitting material to the show should be able to create the majority of the material independently. Here are some things to keep in mind before creating your submission:

Here is our 'menu of modules.' After reading the description, click on the title of each module to see the specific Submission Guidelines for each.

Artist/Band Self-Portrait

The Artist/Band Self-Portrait is an informative, biographical narrative about a local artist or band. The artists give in-depth accounts of their experiences as musicians, including how they got started, an inside look at their performances and lives, and even some of the frustrations they encounter. Music created by the artist(s) and information about where to find their music is also featured.

My Three Songs

This module is normally recorded directly on the streets of Grand Rapids. Members and contributors of Local Resonance survey West Michigan locals about their favorite “three songs” at the moment. The individuals’ discussion is then combined with samples of their three songs and aired during the show.

Worst Gig Ever

The Worst Gig Ever module is an inside, humorous look into how live performances can go wrong, and the difficulties the artists and bands face in overcoming their flawed performances.

Sorry, You Missed It

"Sorry, You Missed It" features music recorded live at concert venues and clubs in West Michigan. Each week, Local Resonance will feature at least one track recorded during the previous week in a West Michigan venue.

Music Serving the Community

This module illustrates how music can positively impact the community. "Music Serving the Community" will provide information about upcoming musical benefits for local nonprofit organizations.

Venue Review

A Venue Review is much like a CD review but focused on a local venue where an individual caught a live musical performance. The individual tells of the experience they had at the venue.

Back-story

The Back-story is a deeper look into the motivation, intention, and story behind the lyrics and music created for a song. Artists provide an inside look at how the song came to be. The song is featured during the show as well.

Below the Radar

Below the Radar is a module that sheds light on obscure, unheard of, and/or up and coming music created by artists, bands, or individuals from West Michigan.

WYCE Programmer Profile

Programmer Profiles give WYCE listeners a better understanding of how the station's programmers choose the music they play. Think of this occasional feature as a musical biography of WYCE's volunteer programmers. They'll talk about the music they love, why they love it, and how it helps them create their shows.

Songwriting Challenge

Once in a great while, Local Resonance will challenge local singer-songwriters to create an original song about a given topic. This is not an ongoing submission opportunity like many of the others, but it is one that recurs from time to time. So, listen to the show and check back here to see when a challenge has been issued!

Your Brilliant Idea

Local Resonance is all about harnessing the creative energy of our local music community. If you have an idea for a one-time or recurring feature that you'd love to produce (or just love to hear), tell us about it. You can fill out a contribution proposal (in the 'Get Involved' section of the site), or just e-mail your thoughts to local [at] wyce.org.
